The Cooperative Community Council is an independent, cooperative association for members, supporters and cooperatives of the South East Queensland region's community-based cooperative movement. The Council focuses on education and communications, cooperative networking and coordination, regional development issues, political and legislative matters in relation to community cooperatives.

Cooperative Community Council

The Cooperative Community Council (CCC) was founded in April 1990. The Council is an independent cooperative association for members and supporters of the South East Queensland region's community-based cooperatives. The Council focuses on education provision, inter-cooperative networking and coordination, regional development issues, political advancement and legislative matters in relation to community cooperatives. The CCC meets quarterly and publishes it's proceedings, discussion papers and reports in a regular set of Council Papers. These are available to members and associates. The Council seeks to further the interests of community cooperatives in the region, through discussion, education, communication with community and government, and the establishment of resources and democratic forums.

Members and Associates

Membership of the Council is open to individuals who will be active in pursuit of the objects of the Council. Qualifications for membership are described in the constitution of the Council. A body corporate may not be a member. Associates are individuals or bodies corporate who support the objects and wish to remain informed of the activities of the Council. The forums of the CCC are open to associates.

Aims of the Council

• To provide a regular, democratic forum
• To pursue an independent political role in advancing cooperation and cooperatives.
• To provide a focus for deliberation on issues of cooperative practice.
• To provide a basis for inter-cooperative coordination tasks.
• To promote and assist the creation and development of a regional federation of community cooperatives.
• To promote and assist the establishment and development of a regional financing base for cooperative activity.
• To promote and assist the founding and development of a regional cooperative resource and education centre.
• To provide support to people working in cooperative and community activities.
• To initiate a range of actions as agreed in council including: education; legal and policy modelling; economic development; financing and financial management; political actions; community cultural development; regional cooperative advancement; communication and networking.
• To practice co-operation including: equality; democracy; equity; autonomy; education; free association and cooperation between co-ops; and concern for community.
• To act in accordance with the council's commonly understood ethical principles, giving effect to principles of social justice, human rights, equal opportunity and environment protection.

The Cooperative Community Council organises forums for discussion of cooperative issues and makes presentations to Government and sector bodies. Most recently the Cooperative Community Council was involved in the development of new cooperative legislation.
